Epoxy floors in Tyler, TX
An epoxy floor turns plain concrete into a hard, glossy surface that wipes clean. We install epoxy and epoxy-based flake systems in garages, homes and shops across East Texas, and we grind and test every slab first.
What an epoxy floor is
Epoxy is a two-part resin. Once the two parts are mixed, it hardens into a tough plastic layer that bonds to concrete. Rolled over a properly ground slab, it seals the surface so oil, dirt and water sit on top instead of soaking in.
On its own, epoxy can be clear, tinted a solid color, or mixed with metallic pigments. Most coated garage floors get a base coat of epoxy with colored vinyl flakes broadcast into it, then a clear topcoat to lock the flakes in. That's what people usually mean by an epoxy garage floor.
Store-bought epoxy kits are thin and go on over concrete that's only been washed or etched. That's the main reason they peel. A professional system starts with diamond grinding, uses thicker industrial coatings, and builds the floor in layers.
Where epoxy works best
Epoxy floors suit almost any indoor concrete: attached and detached garages, shops and barndominiums, game rooms, mudrooms and laundry rooms on a slab. Each space asks something different of the floor, so we set up the system for how you'll use it.
- Garages: a flake floor that hides tire marks and dust, resists oil and road salt, and cleans with a mop.
- Homes: seamless metallic or flake floors with no grout lines, for rooms that see wet shoes and pets.
- Shops and barndos: chemical-resistant flake floors, coated in sections around equipment when needed.
How our systems use epoxy
Every NovaRock floor is built in layers. Our Classic flake system uses an epoxy base coat with a partial flake broadcast, sealed with an epoxy clear topcoat. It's the lower-cost option and a solid floor for a garage that stays out of direct sun.
Our Premium flake system keeps the same ground-and-base approach, broadcasts flake over the whole floor, and finishes with a polyaspartic clear topcoat. Polyaspartic typically cures faster and resists yellowing in the sun better than an epoxy topcoat, which matters in an East Texas garage with the door open on summer afternoons. Premium plus an extra topcoat adds a second clear coat for heavy wear.
Not sure which one fits your garage? The comparison below goes through the differences, and we'll recommend one at your free visit after we've seen the slab.
Prep decides whether it lasts
When a coating fails, the cause is usually the concrete underneath, not the coating. Slabs here deal with humid air, clay soil that moves, and moisture coming up through the concrete. Before any epoxy goes down, we do the work that keeps it from lifting.
- Diamond grinding with a HEPA vacuum, so the coating bonds into the concrete instead of sitting on top.
- A moisture test at your free visit. If the reading is high, a moisture-blocking primer goes down first, and it shows up in your price.
- Crack and spall repair, and control joints filled where you want a smooth look.
- A temperature and dew point check on install day. If the conditions aren't right, we move the date and tell you why.
Living with an epoxy floor
A sealed epoxy floor needs very little: sweep or dust-mop grit off it, and wash it with a mop and a mild cleaner when it gets dirty. Wipe up oil, brake fluid and chemicals when you see them rather than leaving them to sit. Put a mat or pad under kickstands and jack stands.
Every NovaRock floor comes with a written warranty and a yearly check-in, so if something isn't right we see it early.
Epoxy floor questions
How long does an epoxy floor last?
With proper grinding and a quality topcoat, a coated garage floor lasts many years. How long depends on the slab, the traffic and the topcoat. Your written warranty covers [X] years on Classic flake and [Lifetime] on Premium.
Is an epoxy floor slippery?
A smooth, glossy epoxy can be slick when wet. Flake floors have a light texture from the chips, and we can add a fine grit to the topcoat for extra grip on ramps or in wet areas.
Can you put epoxy over a cracked garage floor?
Usually, yes. We repair cracks and spalls as part of the job and grind the whole floor. If a slab has moved a lot, we'll tell you at the free visit what the coating can and can't hide.
How long before I can use the floor?
It depends on the system and the weather. Polyaspartic topcoats typically let you walk on the floor the next day and park sooner than an epoxy topcoat. We give you exact walk-on and park-on times for your floor before install day.
